Drytac launches new PVC-free floor and wall graphics media globally

Drytac expanded its floor and wall graphic ranges with Polar PET 170 and SpotOn SynTac, meeting demand for eco-friendlier PVC-free products.

Drytac has added two new products to its extensive range, meeting demand for eco-friendlier PVC-free options. Now available globally, Drytac Polar PET 170 and Drytac SpotOn SynTac are both scuff and slip resistant.

Drytac’s manufacturing facilities in North America and the UK have been working around the clock to ensure all orders are fulfilled, helping graphics specialists to react to customer demand. In addition to increasing production of Drytac’s established graphics products, it has released two new wall and floor graphic medias.

The popularity of floor graphics has increased significantly in recent months owing to their effectiveness as directional signage and social distancing notices. It’s essential that materials used for floor graphics are hard-wearing and safe for their intended use, including meeting all non-slip and fire regulations.

Award winning, Drytac SpotOn SynTac is a 120μ (4.8 mil) PVC-free PP film, coated on one side with a dot-pattern adhesive for simple application and removal. SpotOn SynTac can also be combined with Drytac’s slip-rated Interlam EcoTex PVC-free overlaminating film for extra longevity without compromising on sustainability. This ‘peel and stick’ product is ideal for seasonal promotions and offers twelve months’ durability indoors on standard smooth floor and wall surfaces.

Drytac’s second new launch is Drytac Polar PET 170, a scuff- and tear-resistant PVC-free media for indoor floor and wall applications for up to six months. Polar PET 170 contains up to 40%  industrial recycled content. This makes Polar PET 170 an ideal choice for retailers with demanding green initiatives. This product is also coated on one side with pressure-sensitive adhesive to make installation and removal clean and simple, while the other side has a textured, matte finish that is non-slip without lamination. Part of the Polar range, Polar PET 170 is designed to withstand extreme temperatures and is compatible with most standard wall and flooring surfaces.

Both new products meet the requirements of public spaces – crucial considerations in terms of both public safety and businesses’ legal responsibilities. When SpotOn SynTac is used with Interlam EcoTex, it has achieved post-printed anti-slip ratings and certifications according to DIN 51130, US ANSI A137.1, and the EN 13036-4/ASTM E303 Pendulum Test. Polar PET 170 also has achieved these slip certifications and is EN 13051-1 fire rated.

Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager, Drytac, comments: “Floor graphics are really effective for grabbing attention, making them an exciting choice for short-term promotions and creative applications. They are also playing an important role as directional and social distancing signage, where it is essential to comply with safety and legal requirements. We ensure that all Drytac floor graphics products pass strict tests for slip resistance while looking great for as long as they need to.

“Being PVC-free, new Drytac Polar PET 170 and Drytac SpotOn SynTac meet these demands with a smaller environmental impact than other products. As an added benefit, Polar PET 170 and SpotOn SynTac films can be used for vibrant wall graphics applications; the white, ink-receptive medias have a textured, matte finish that is also perfect for directional notices, retail promotions, POS advertising and decals.”

New antimicrobial film from Drytac helps keep surfaces hygienic 24/7

Drytac Protac AMP Film with Microban protecting a hospital door from the growth of stain and odour causing bacteria and mould.

Drytac launches Protac AMP Film, imbued with Microban® antimicrobial protection to help fight the growth of stain and odour causing bacteria and mould.

Drytac has announced the global launch of Protac AMP Film with Microban® antimicrobial technology a new product designed to help protect surfaces from microbes that can cause premature product degradation.

When bacteria contaminate a surface such as a door or touchpad – as a result of human contact, environmental conditions or simply lack of cleaning – they can multiply very quickly. Similarly, fungi and mould can proliferate on a surface. Regular cleaning with an effective detergent will remove these microorganisms.  Drytac Protac AMP Film can help maintain cleanliness in between cleaning. It offers reliable protection from the growth of stain and odour causing bacteria and mould.

This 150μ (6 mil) self-adhesive polyester surface protection film incorporates Microban technology at the manufacturing stage so it becomes part of the material’s intrinsic physical structure at a molecular level – it will not wash off or wear away. Microban reservoirs in the film disrupt the microbes’ cell walls, inhibiting their growth. The film provides protection 24 hours a day for up to 15 years, and is durable to withstand regular cleaning.

Protac AMP Film is ideal for protecting doors, keypads, counters, tables and any other flat surfaces. It is transparent with a hard top coat and provides scratch and chemical resistance for up to 15 years. Every batch of Protac AMP Film is tested for antimicrobial performance providing the utmost confidence and peace of mind for any application.

“Our new Protac AMP antimicrobial Film with Microban technology delivers protection in one easy-to-use product,” says Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager, Drytac. “It is prepared with Drytac’s innovative adhesive, so users can simply apply the film to the surface and leave it to do its job: helping reduce growth of microbes on the surface for many years.”

Protac AMP Film has already been used on drinks machines, tray tables on aircraft, and in healthcare facilities and schools, with literally hundreds of other potential applications. This product can help maintain the highest standards of cleanliness.”

One film does not fit all – Why specialist products can pay off

A multi-purpose graphics film could seem like a good deal, but you may end up spending more money and time than you bargained for. Jerry Hill from Drytac explains why.

Authored by Jerry Hill, Vice President of Sales, USA, Drytac

The term ‘multi-purpose’ sounds great. One product for different applications, helping your business keep costs low and stock keeping units (SKU) simple – what’s not to like? However, in reality, that smart multi-functional product will be better for some jobs than others, in terms of appearance, performance, cost efficiency and longevity. This might seem like an acceptable balance, but some products claiming to be effective across multiple applications might do well for some jobs but perform downright poorly for others.

This is especially important when choosing graphics media. The type of product, and particularly its adhesive element, should be dictated by the application’s environment and required longevity. A multi-use product might perform well for a few weeks but may cause problems if left in place for months, after which the adhesive will fail. In the case of floor graphics, curling edges would pose a safety risk aside from looking unsightly. Conversely, the product may be designed for long-term or permanent use when the application is short-term. If so, you will spend more time and money removing it than you expected.

Naturally, the cost to your business – in money and time – is the big factor. Nobody likes paying more or taking longer to get results. It’s therefore understandable to look at the price and ease of use of graphics media developed for indoor applications and hope it will work just as well for outdoor graphics, for example. However, in this case, the indoor product will lack the weatherproof adhesives specifically engineered for exterior use, meaning it may simply fail. A specialist outdoor product would cost more but will offer peace of mind that results will last. Again, the reverse can be true: one product could be priced correctly for floors and the specialist adhesive this application requires but overpriced for walls where this adhesive would be too aggressive.

Indeed, even for indoor applications, the product must be compatible with the intended surface. In addition to remaining safely in place, it should be cleanly and easily removed at the end of the project. Products that are designed for high-tack applications such as brick can also work on windows, but be aware: apply it to drywall or plasterboard and it may never come off without pulling the wall surface away with it.

Alongside its suitability to do a job, consider the aesthetics of the product. There is a fantastic variety of textures and finishes available for graphics – why restrict yourself to a matte finish when you could choose glossy, or even sand, linen, canvas or woodgrain effect?

If you’re still leaning towards a product marketed as multi-purpose, consider a loaf of sliced bread. Perfect for toast in the morning, but how about as a hot dog bun? You could use it, but why would you want to? It completely changes the experience. That sliced loaf might be ideal for the kids’ packed lunches, but would you serve it at a dinner party? What if you or your guests have a gluten intolerance, or you simply want to serve something more special with your soup? One product might seem to tick all the boxes, but in reality it needs more thought. For a graphics application, just like in a bakery, the best thing since sliced bread might be a lot more sophisticated.

Here at Drytac, we have solutions designed for specific applications. You can view our solutions here! Please reach out to a team member if you have any questions.

Get social distancing signs right with new guide from Drytac

As more businesses open to the public and staff, Drytac has released a guide on using social distancing graphics safely on walls, windows and floors.

Drytac has compiled a new, free guide on how signs and graphics can be used effectively and safely to inform and provide guidance to people in accordance with government guidelines.

As lockdown restrictions are eased and we transition to a new normal, businesses are finding that floor graphics, wall displays and window signs are essential for non-verbal communication. Graphics can convey safety information such as social distancing, hand washing guidance and queuing systems, and to alert customers about updated services or opening hours.

As we enter uncharted territory, best practices remain essential for businesses to ensure their legal obligations are met and people are kept safe. Drytac’s new guide, Open, Innovating, Moving Forward, is intended to help retailers and installers to choose the correct graphics solutions that meet these requirements. It outlines what to look for – from fire ratings to slip ratings to FDA approvals – and lists Drytac’s products that may be suitable for relevant applications. These are categorised into window graphic solutions, one-part and two-part floor graphic solutions, writable media, wall graphic products and antimicrobial films.

The free-to-download guide is both easy to use and interactive: clicking on a product listed in the guide will open the associated Drytac webpage, providing more details, datasheets and application videos.

“We’re seeing more short-term graphics than ever before and it’s absolutely essential that they are safe and legal for their specific environments,” says Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager for Drytac. “Our new guide will help businesses make the right decision when choosing and installing informative graphics.”

Open, Innovating, Moving Forward is available to download for free now. Simply visit www.drytac.com/socialdistancingsolutions to download a copy. Drytac, a leading international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the large format print and signage markets, has also compiled a guide on short- and long-term graphics for the retail market. Drytac has released Polar Street FX, a PVC-free aluminium print media designed for durable floor graphics in outdoor locations without lamination.

This clear film is composed of a textured polyester with a hard top coat.
